Veterinary Assistants
With years of hands-on experience and on-the-job training, our veterinary assistants—often informally called “techs”—play a vital role in daily care. From comforting patients to assisting in procedures, they bring skill, compassion, and calm to every visit.
Megan BrooksMegan grew up in the small town of Damascus, Oregon surrounded by nurseries and quant backyard farms. Her childhood dream was to become a Veterinarian, but the universe had other plans. She joined the US Navy back in 2011 and worked as an aircraft mechanic, before transferring to the Reserves as a Hull Technician. Now she is presently attached to the Expeditionary Maintenance Unit on board the USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) in Guam.
While digging roots here in Homer, Alaska with her husband and son, she decided to take a step towards pursuing her childhood dream and became a part of the K-Bay Animal Hospital family. While working as a Kennel Assistant, she is learning new skills every day that will hopefully someday help her make this path a career. Sarah WiseSarah is a 3rd generation homesteader with her grandfather setting roots in Homer, Alaska back in 1954. She has a passionate love for this beautiful expanding town and all it has to offer. She grew up on a small farm out East End Rd. surrounded by horses, cattle, pigs, goats, rabbits and ducks.
From a very young age her grandfather inspired her in her vehement love for all animals. Her passion in life is animals and their human companion’s welfare. She loves to spend most of her free time with her own pets on her small farm. She also enjoys to ride horses, hike, garden, sport fish and is an avid aquarist. Sarah is Fear Free Certified and completed multiple programs through atDove, ACT, Vetfolio, as well as attended and completed many CE classes. She has also worked with the Seward Sealife Center in their stranded seal and otter program. She continues to expand her education and knowledge both in Client welfare and Patient medical care. Sarah brings with her 8 years of veterinary field experience and is very excited to continue serving local pet families! |
Isabell ReeseIsabell grew up as a coast guard kid, moving every few years, but always with Homer as her homebase. Despite the impracticality, her family was never without a small zoo of pets, which instilled a lifelong love of animals in her.
She jumped at the chance to move back to her hometown, purchasing her grandmother's business, Clearview Window Washing, in 2022. She now splits her time between washing windows with her dog/supervisor, George, and helping the amazing animals at Kachemak Bay Animal Hospital. She cares deeply about animal welfare, with a specific focus on small animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits. In her free time she can usually be found at the beach with her dog, up a tree for no particular reason, or at home with her own personal menagerie. Christie HillChristie has lived in Homer since she was 4 years old, and has wanted nothing more than to be in vet med ever since. She even volunteered with Homer Veterinary Clinic as a 4th grader. Christie also volunteered for the Homer Animal Shelter starting around the same time. She has been working in vet med consistently since 2017. Christie also works with the Alaska SeaLife Center as a Wildlife Response Specialist, Wildlife Oil Spill Response, and Volunteer Coordinator for the Homer Stranding Network. Soon to be furthering her education, Christie will be starting Veterinary Technician school in hopes to become a licensed technician in the near future. She is compassionate with each and every furry and not so furry friend she meets.
